St. Albans man faces animal cruelty charges

A man was charged with animal cruelty after police said they found two dogs emaciated and whimpering in pain in St. Albans on Monday. 35-year old Jason Hager is charged with two counts of cruelty to animals. Police said they initially responded to Hager’s home for a domestic disturbance when they detected an odor of marijuana and got consent to search the home. That’s when they found the dogs, and Hager told the officers the dogs had gone about a week without food. The dogs were taken to an emergency veterinarian by a humane officer.
