Foster care lawsuit moves to class action status

A federal district judge in West Virginia has granged class-action status to a lawsuit filed on behalf of six thousand foster kids in the state. The suit claims children are referred to the foster care system in the state at a rate more than one-and-a-half times the national average. The suit filed against Governor Jim Justice and the DHHR claims the system is overloaded and those children are often placed out-of-state or isolated in sub-par facilities. Nonprofits are representing the children, along with the law firm of Shaffer and Shaffer.
