Tourism officials have provided a fall foliage forecast as fall gets into full swing. From late September and early October, color changes are expected to begin from the Mason Dixon Line south into the mountain lakes region of the state. Audra State Park was voted the best hidden gem in the state for autumn aficionados to observe fall foliage. The heavily-wooded tract straddles the Middle Fork River in portions of Barbour and Upshur Counties. Holly River State Park offers more than 8,000 acres of dense forest for hiking, biking, fishing, camping and horseback riding. The Highland Scenic Highway from Richwood to Marlinton also has panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
