Rule change could move members of the media to a different vantage point at city council meetings

A resolution that will be in a Charleston City Council committee on Monday would change the rules within council chambers moving members of the media from the typical table up front to the gallery with the rest of the public. Members of the media have had the vantage point at the front of council chambers for years, but a new resolution states that people who are not council members or city staff will not be allowed on the floor 30 minutes before the meeting, during the meeting and the 30 minutes after. The resolution will go before the committee on ordinance and rules at 5 p.m. Monday at Charleston City Hall. If it makes it out of committee, the resolution could be read before council during the full meeting at 7 p.m.
