Gov. Justice doesn’t have to testify in pending jail lawsuit

A federal magistrate has stopped the depositions of West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and his chief of staff as part of a federal class-action lawsuit centered around allegations of inhumane and unconstitutional conditions at the Southern Regional Jail, at least for now. An attorney for Justice and Brian Abraham asked the federal court to stop the testimony from taking place while the plaintiffs’ attorney contends the depositions are relevant to the ongoing litigation. Beckley attorney Stephen New, who is representing the current and former inmates at the facility, believes both Abraham and Justice have knowledge relevant to the issues.
