Raleigh County memorials honor fallen officers

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office unveiled two monuments recently to memorialize law enforcement officers. The Deputy Memorial and K-9 Appreciation Memorial were revealed during a special ceremony that included surviving family members of the fallen deputies. A social media post from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office said despite “countless close calls,” 1938 marked the last time a Raleigh County deputy was killed in the line of duty. Deputies credited contributions from citizens and businesses within the county to fund the memorials.
