Two former correctional officers enter plea in inmate death case

Two former correctional officers pleaded guilty in connection to the death of an inmate at Southern Regional Jail Thursday. Steven Nicholas Wimmer and Andrew Fleshman pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the civil rights of 37-year-old Quantez Burks. Records said Burks was assaulted by correctional officers while handcuffed. Court documents indicates the beating was punishment for an attempt to push past a jail guard. The two men face up to ten years in prison and sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 22.
