All but one Clay County Board of Education members voting yes, to close and consolidate H.E White and Lizemore Elementary schools into Clay County Elementary. Board member Susan Bodkins voted no because she had two kids attend Lizemore and the transition to another school was too much. The vote comes after months of rumors and weeks of public meetings. Superintendent of Clay County Schools Phil Dobbins sited a 23.4 percent decline in enrollment throughout the county in the past decade. The decline led to less funding but the consolidation of both elementary schools will put Clay County Elementary at 59 percent capacity. The county now has to send its proposal to the state board of education for approval.
