New access is available to Fayette County rock climbers

Rock climbers in Fayette County now have permanent access to a popular area near the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The area known as Bubba City or Sandstonia was secured by the West Virginia Land Trust, allowing recreational access. The 40-acre preserve is close to the National Park Service Visitor Center and includes a two-mile rock wall with dozens of climbing routes and hiking opportunities. In the past, accessing the 40-acre area was difficult because it was on private land. The West Virginia Land Trust is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving land for outdoor enthusiasts.
