A Mingo County grand jury indicted a man for the 2023 shooting death of a West Virginia State Police Trooper. Timothy Kennedy of Matewan faces several charges. Kennedy had previously pleaded not guilty in the shooting death of Sgt. Cory Maynard in June of 2023. Investigators said Maynard was responding to a shooting in the Beech Creek area of Mingo County, where another man was wounded, when Kennedy shot and killed him. He was taken into custody several hours later following a massive manhunt. In Nov., Kennedy was denied bond by a Mingo County Circuit Court judge. He is being held at the Western Regional Jail.
