The annual 2024 Sport Fish Consumption Advisory report is a cooperative effort between the Department of Health, West Virginia DNR and West Virginia DEP and lets anglers know which fish are safe to consume. Eyewitness News reported that the Upper Mud Reservoir in Lincoln County is now officially under a fish consumption advisory. Elevated levels of selenium were found in fish there, which means you’ll want to limit any meal to once a week. Bass, crappie, bluegill and sunfish are included in the advisory. You can reduce other contaminants by properly filleting a fish, removing the skin, and eliminating as much fat as possible. Smaller fish and trout are less likely to be contaminated.
