Lawmakers consider replacing Robert C. Byrd statue

Senate Bill 733, which is currently in the Senate Finance Committee, proposes that a statue of the former longtime U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd be replaced with four statues of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, James Madison and Arthur Boreman. Byrd served more than five decades in Congress until his death in 2010. Early in his career, Byrd was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. He later denounced the organization and called his participation a mistake.
