Winfield Middle School students used their instruments this week to honor the life of their fellow band member and classmate, 14-year-old Koda Jarrett, who had been in the band since sixth grade. Kanawha County deputies said they found Jarrett and his mother dead on Feb. 7 inside of their home. His fellow band members helped organize the concert as a way to remember him. At the concert the principal of Winfield Middle School announced the school is in the works of creating an award to give away to a student that will be named after Jarrett. The award will be given away at the awards ceremony at the end of the school year.
