More than $100,000 will be necessary to repair KCHA building

The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association said it is expected to cost more than $100,000 in damage after a U-Haul crashed into its building in March. The animal shelter said in an update Wednesday it is currently waiting on insurance reports, but has been told costs are expected to surpass six-figures due to structural damages, including A/C units and kennel drainage system. The shelter said it will operate at half capacity in the meantime and will take animals on a case-by-case basis with priority to sick, injured or neonatal animals. Eyewitness News said they’ll rely heavily on fosters for at least two months. Nearly $60,000 has been raised since the crash on March 27. Country star Miranda Lambert’s nonprofit MuttNation recently donated $10,000 to the shelter. The Kanawha County Commission has pledged to help too. And local Papa John’s locations have pitched in to help as donation drop-off points and will also donate a portion of proceeds to the shelter.
