Questions remain over follow-up checks on Kyneddi Miller prior to her death

The West Virginia Department of Human Services claims it never received an abuse or neglect referral on a teenager in Boone County despite a state police report that a welfare call on the girl led to a referral more than a year before her death. Eyewitness News reported that a West Virginia State Police call log showed troopers responded to a home on Cameo Road in Morrisvale on March 9, 2023, to check on the 14-year-old. As part of the welfare check, troopers said Miller appeared to be OK and asked that the case be referred to CPS for follow-ups. The teenager was found “emaciated to a skeletal state” on April 17, 2024, according to a criminal complaint. Her mother, Julie Anne Stone Miller was charged with child neglect causing death the same day. The grandparents have also been charged in the case.
