Gov. Jim Justice responded to Donald Trump’s conviction after the former president was found guilty of 34 felony charges. The presumptive Republican nominee was convicted on charges relating to cover-up payments made to porn film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. This is the first time that a former president has been convicted of felony charges, though the charges do not prohibit Trump from running for office. In a statement, Justice asked “What is happening in America?” The Trump-endorsed Justice went on to call the verdict “deeply troubling” and a “politicized decision” referring to the case as a “witch hunt,” echoing sentiments that Trump used in the past.
