Juneteenth celebration is planned at the State Capitol

Gov. Justice declared Juneteenth 2024 a state holiday. Juneteenth will be observed on June 19, celebrating the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation which freed enslaved people in the United States. Many events will be happening across the state for the holiday, including a Juneteenth Celebration on the Kanawha Boulevard lawns of the West Virginia Capitol Complex on June 15 from 4 to 9 p.m., according to the news release. The event will feature performances and is free and open to the public.
