Soccer championships are expected to provide an economic boost

More than 100 teams will be part of the U.S. Youth Soccer Championship Series in Charleston this weekend. Thousands of athletes, coaches and families will split time between the Shawnee Sports Complex and Barboursville Park beginning today. Championship games will be held at Shawnee to be followed by a regional tournament next week. Kanawha County officials estimate the two events will generate more than $30 million in economic impact to the area. Teams from several states along the East Coast are competing.
