K-9 officer helps nab a suspect accussed of fleeing in stolen vehicle

A Kanawha County K-9 is credited with apprehending a man accused of driving a stolen vehicle into a river while running from deputies earlier this month. Ronald Sims of Beckley is accused of fleeing from deputies during a traffic stop in the Clendenin area on June 18 and then deliberately driving the stolen vehicle into the Elk River, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Sims fled into the woods following the crash, and K-9 Jet eventually tracked him down. The sheriff’s office said Sims was in possession of a handgun, ammunition and nearly 100 grams of various drugs. A court hearing in the case is scheduled for Friday.
