More than 230 youth soccer teams are in the region for the U.S. Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships. The tournament is expected to draw more than 10,000 people to games co-hosted by the Shawnee Sports Complex in Kanawha County and Barboursville Soccer Complex in Cabell County, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Commission. They expect the tournament to have a $32 million economic impact to the area. Teams from Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia are participating through Sunday.
