WVA looking at a surplus of $750-$800 million

The exact size of West Virginia’s budget surplus from Fiscal Year 2024 won’t be known for another few days, but state officials have estimated the figure will come in between $750 and $800 million. Sen. Ben Queen, Del. Keith Marple and Del. Mickey Petitto, who are all Republicans representing Harrison County in the West Virginia Legislature, each have their own ideas on how they would like to see the funds put to use. Gov. Jim Justice has indicated he plans to call the members of the West Virginia Legislature into a special session at the end of August, giving lawmakers fewer than 60 days to get their priorities in order.
