Charleston City Council considered a resolution Monday to prevent police from arresting the unhoused for non-violent offenses during the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta, the city’s biggest event of the year. The resolution overwhelmingly failed at Monday night’s city council meeting. This wasn’t the first time people had voiced their concerns about the timing surrounding certain arrests in Charleston. The issue was brought to the table Monday night by Charleston City Council members and sponsors Joe Solomon and Beth Kerns in the form of a resolution.
