Dept of Natural Resources has new 10 member Dive Team

Department of Natural Resource Police are responsible for boating safety on the state level and they’re stepping up efforts to curb drunk boating this week and unveiling its new dive team. Operation Dry Water, a nationwide effort promoting safe and sober boating, is underway during the Fourth of July holiday, a major time for boating with summer recreation and events like the sternwheel regatta underway. The DNR law enforcement dive team are all certified divers who got an additional two weeks of open water training in South Carolina and completed over 100 hours of training beyond their certification. The team will help investigate boating accidents, look for missing persons and aid in evidence recovery. The plan is for their help to be available in all 55 counties with the divers stationed throughout the state.
