Police identify man shot in Mingo County Friday morning

West Virginia State Police have released the name of a man who was fatally shot after an altercation turned violent Friday morning in Mingo County. Charles Speer, 42, of Kermit, was killed at a home between the Lenore and Naugatuck areas shortly after 5 a.m., according to a news release from State Police. The news release said Speer traveled to the home and “a physical altercation occurred during which Charles Speer was shot multiple stimes.” Troopers said Speer was taken to Williamson ARH where he was pronounced dead.The man’s body is being sent to Frankfort, Kentucky for an autopsy amid an ongoing investigation, according to State Police. While the Mingo County Prosecutor’s Office has been made aware of the investigation, no charges have been filed.
