Ex-mayoral candidate faces charges for threatening Huntington’s current mayor

A man is accused of threatening to kill current Huntington Mayor Steve Williams while in city hall. 70-year old Richard Luther is charged with intimidation and retaliation against a public official, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court. Luther was a Republican candidate for mayor in Huntington during the primary election. The complaint said Huntington police were dispatched to city hall on Monday afternoon in response to verbal threats against the mayor. Luther posted a $25,000 bond, according to court records. As part of the bond agreement, he is required to have no contact with Williams and to stay away from city hall.
