West Virginia leaders react to the shooting at Saturday’s Trump rally

West Virginia politicians are sharing reactions to the shots fired at a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Several shots rang out during the former president’s stop in Butler, Pennsylvania before he was tackled to the ground by Secret Service members. The former president is recovering after being shot in the ear.

The suspect and one other died following the shooting. Gov. Jim Justice, Sen. Shelly Moore Capito, and members of the Kanawha County Commission were among many to offer well wishes for former President Trump, and condemn the violence. Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday evening to thank law enforcement, and offer his condolences to the family of the crowd member who died at the event. As of now, he is planning to attend the Republican National Convention this week in Milwaukee.
