Sargent Cory Maynard was killed during a call in Mingo County in June of 2023.
For the second year in a row, the Ted Ellis Baseball field in Chapmanville was filled with people honoring the West Virginia State trooper and a memorial softball tournament. The event raised money for the Cory Maynard memorial scholarship. It’s given to first responders attending Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. The scholarship is designed to help first responders or immediate family members of responders with education.
