An arrest has been made in a suspicious death investigation in Kanawha County, according to deputies. Brittany Hickman, 35, of Elkview has been charged with first-degree murder in the February 2024 death of 70-year-old Richard Crowder, according to a Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Crowder was found dead in his Mink Shoals home on Feb. 13 with a gunshot wound after a healthcare worker reported that he did not come to his door. An investigation showed that Hickman was the last person to see Crowder alive and located nearby the day his body was discovered, according to the news release. DNA and other forensic evidence, including gunshot residue found on Hickman’s clothing confirmed that she was involved in the death, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
