Guided walking tours will catch a glimpse of West Virginia’s elk herd

Guided walking tours will be happening in October, to catch a glimpse of West Virginia’s elk herd at the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources said the tours will begin on October 3, and will only be offered for three weeks on Saturdays, Sundays, and Thursdays. A limited number of tickets are on sale now for the 2-3 mile trek. West Virginia’s elk population disappeared in the late 1800s, but the West Virginia Legislature voted to reintroduce some elk in 2015. The herd now has a population of about 150 elk.
