A Kanawha County man is accused of accidentally starting a Cross Lanes brush fire with a pair of burning shoes. According to court records. Scott Lorenzo Adkins, 52, has been charged with starting a fire on another person’s land after a wildfire ignited along Kelly Road. Adkins was seen by witnesses walking in the area with a pair of shoes on fire, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Kanawha County Magistrate Court. The complaint said that several other witnesses overheard Adkins admitting to accidentally starting the fire with his shoes just as the local volunteer firefighters arrived on scene. Adkins is being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $1,000 cash only bond.
