Burn Ban lifted in Kanawha County as rain pours

The Kanawha County Commission has lifted a burn ban initiated last week as West Virginia delt with drought condition. The announcement came as the Kanawha Valley experienced much-needed rainfall. Outdoor burning in Kanawha County will be permitted through Monday when West Virginia’s forest fire season begins Oct. 1. Daytime burning is then prohibited for the remainder of the year by state law. Burning trash is prohibited and officials encourage area residents to utilize county cleanups to dispose of debris, recyclables and unwanted appliances. The season’s final cleanup event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5 in from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Cabin Creek. Mason County has also lifted its burn ban, thanks to the abundant rainfall.
