Sissonville High School student takes flight to help Hurricane victims

A Sissonville High School student is taking to the skies to help people affected by Hurricane Helene. Seventeen-year-old Nathaniel Simonton, his twin brother Eli, and his father loaded supplies at West Virginia International Yeager Airport and flew to Ashe County, North Carolina Friday morning. Nathaniel has his pilot’s license and is a Cadet First Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps Junior ROTC who has been busy collecting essential items including batteries, cleaning supplies and diapers to help those in the southeast affected by severe weather. Simonton said they’re trying to help people in rural areas who are difficult to reach or have been cut off by the storm. During his visit, Nathaniel found other items needed. An updated list has been posted to Sissonville High School’s Facebook page and donations may be dropped off at the school.
