Gov. Jim Justice announced a proclamation on Saturday amending the special session that got underway on Sunday evening. The governor added four new items for the legislature to consider along with original proposed legislation. The four new items include: $10 million for drought relief; $5 million investment for expanding childcare services; $1 million in funding for enhanced school safety measures; the creation of a line item for charter school funding for the School Building Authority.
The original call included a childcare tax credit, allowing charter schools to apply for School Building Authority funding, the creation of the Radiation Control Act to establish a regulatory system for radiation, and to allow research for new opioid treatment programs. The legislature is also expected to discuss the 5% income tax cut that was proposed by Justice in September.
