After a public hearing this week, the Kanawha County Board of Education voted to consolidate two middle schools. Despite voices of opposition, the board voted unanimously to merge McKinley into Hayes Middle School. The vote determines that McKinley Middle School will close after the 2024-2025 academic year with students transitioning to Hayes Middle School. The board also voted to close East Bank Middle school and have those students attend Dupont next year.
