Several buildings in the New River Park and Preserve are up for demolition

The National Park Service wants to demolish 19 historic buildings in the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve that are considered “potentially excess,” according to a news release from the agency. The proposed demolition includes 11 that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many of the structures have issues with mold or structural damage that would make renovations difficult. The West Virginia Preservation Alliance may step in and encourage alternatives besides demolition. Comments can be submitted on the National Park Service website through Noember 8.
