A man faces charges for having hundreds of gift cards related to a scam

A Florida man pleaded guilty after he was found in West Virginia with hundreds of gift cards that prosecutors said he would use as part of a scam. Yasmany Cruz of Ft. Lauderdale pleaded guilty in a case that stems from a traffic stop in Ohio County. Deputies said they found 748 gift cards in Cruz’s vehicle during a traffic stop. Eyewitness News said, as part of the scheme, Cruz would alter the gift cards so that once they were purchased by others and funds added to them, he would allegedly transfer the funds from the cards to an account he controlled. Prosecutors said Cruz agreed that intended to cause a loss of about $374,000. He faces up to ten years in prison.
