State officials are taking notice after three tractor trailers caught fire in three separate crashes along the Interstate 64 construction in Cabell County within 24 hours of one another. Authorities say each situation was caused by driver error. Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Andrew Frazier told Eyewitness News that city, county and state first responders usually hold monthly meetings to discuss the interstate construction, but Friday afternoon, a department of highways spokesperson announced increased police patrols in work zones. The West Virginia Traffic Engineering Division is conducting a safety review of the Interstate 64 work zone in the coming days. Construction around the Merritt’s Creek Exit is expected to continue until the work is completed in the fall of next year.
