PEIA is considering increases to insurance deductibles and premiums

The Public Employees Insurance Agency Committee has a proposal on the table for a 40% increase in deductibles. This increase is an average of $300, along with a 14% increase in premiums across the state and a 16% increase for local governments. Officials said the hike stems from the skyrocketing price of drug and medical expenses skyrocketing. Lawmakers contend they’ll do what’s best for policy holders during West Virginia’s next legislative session. Eyewitness News said the proposed increases are expected to be voted on during a Dec. 5 meeting. The PEIA finance board will be holding public hearings across the state, including one on Nov. 21 at the Virginia Culture Center, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard East, Charleston.
