Former bus driver accused of DUI enters plea

A former school bus driver accused of driving under the influence when a bus full of students crashed in Putnam County earlier this year pleaded not guilty this week. Amy Allen, of Red House pleaded not guilty to 28 counts of child neglect creating substantial risk of injury, 22 counts of driving under the influence causing bodily injury and one count of DUI with an unemancipated minor during a court appearance Tuesday. Allen is accused of driving a bus with 28 students on board that crashed into a tree on Roosevelt Boulevard in Eleanor on April 10. Allen’s contract with Putnam County Schools was terminated on May 8. A pretrial hearing in the case was set for Jan. 17 and trial was set for Feb. 3.
