Suspect in West Virginia State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard’s death fires his lawyers

The man charged in the June 2023 ambush murder of a West Virginia trooper has fired his lawyers, pushing back his trial until next spring at the earliest. Timothy Kennedy, accused of fatally shooting West Virginia State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard in Mingo County, was expected to go on trial sometime this month, but Eyewitness News learned his lawyers moved to withdraw as counsel at Kennedy’s request and the judge agreed. Now a trial won’t take place until a final, in-person pre-trial hearing set which is set for April 2025. Court records show a virtual status hearing scheduled for Jan. 6 and pre-trial hearings on March 4 and April 10.
