USS WV sailor to be laid to rest on Pearl Harbor anniversary weekend

A sailor who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 will finally be laid to rest today. Fireman 2nd Class William Paul Kubinec was born in 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Garrettsville in Portage County, Ohio, according to the Navy Office of Community Outreach. He was one of many sailors who died on the USS West Virginia during the Pearl Harbor attack. His remains were recovered but not identified until a lab analysis was performed in 2019. He will be laid to rest in the Northern Veterans California Cemetery in Igo, California today (December 6) at 2 p.m.
