Capital Connector will change Kanawha

The new Capital Connector Project is promising to change the shape of Kanawha Boulevard East in Charleston. The current design will run from Magic Island to the 35th Street Bridge. Contractors said the design will help reduce crashes and create a more walkable environment along the Kanawha River. Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin said over the next few years, 3.5 miles of city road will undergo a “road diet.” A Federal Highway Administration study showed reducing roads from four to three lanes reduces the chance of crashes by up to 47 percent. GAI Consultants said Tuesday they were in the final design phase for this project but public comment, an interactive map allowing people to click and comment directly on separate areas of the project design, will end January 3rd.
