A Behind The Badge seminar was held Monday in Huntington at Marshall University to shine a light on post-traumatic stress disorder and mental health with first responders. First responders include police, firefighters and paramedics, who can experience significantly higher rates of PTSD and suicide compared to the general public. That’s where the Police Benevolent Foundation steps in with the Behind The Badge seminar. Their mission is teaching that mental health is just as essential as physical health. Eyewitness News said about 30% of first responders develop an untreated mental health condition in their career.
