Building burns after designation unsafe by city

On Monday, the Huntington City Council considered labeling a building – owned by Everett Hannah Properties LLC – as a public nuisance due to its appearance and crime in the area. On Christmas Day, emergency crews responded to a structure fire at a that property in Huntington. The blaze was reported by dispatchers about 4:22 a.m. Christmas Day at 2401 Fifth Avenue, temporarily closing a portion of the roadway as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. Crews on scene told Eyewitness News the building is deemed a total loss and ownership would be responsible for demolition. City officials said an inspection of the building revealed it to be unsafe. Dispatchers said the building should be abandoned and no injuries have been reported. Fire officials are investigating.
