Charleston Municipal Auditorium’s future will depend on study outcome

The future of the Charleston Municipal Auditorium has been uncertain since it was deemed structurally unsafe. Eyewitness News reported the Charleston City Council has funded a study to determine if the facade, built in 1939 could be kept or if it should be demolished. An engineering firm has been chosen to conduct the study following a 2023 assessment which determined the building had critical structural and electrical issues. Several city leaders have expressed a desire to draw events and concerts, and the auditorium could play a role in those plans. More will be known soon.
