Tips welcome in New River Gorge vandalism case

Officials are asking for the public’s help finding those responsible for defacing a popular hiking trail in the New River Gorge. The New River Gorge National Park & Preserve asked on social media Wednesday for anyone with information regarding the defacement of the Long Point Trail to reach out. Photos shared by the park service show apparent red spray paint covering portions of the rock formation near the end of the trail. Park officials said the incident is believed to have happened on or about Dec. 23, 2024. The Long Point trail is one of the park’s most popular hikes with views of the iconic bridge and gorge.
