U.S. Attorney serving West Virginia announces his resignation

One of West Virginia’s two U.S. Attorneys announced his resignation Monday.
U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia William Ihlenfeld announced his resignation, saying he was sad to leave but called his time serving the northern district an honor and a privilege. Ihlenfeld served as U.S. Attorney from August 2010 until December 2016 and then returned to the position in October 2021. In his most recent term, Ihlenfeld focused on the investigation and prosecution of drug trafficking, domestic violence, and white-collar crimes, with a special emphasis on health care fraud and COVID fraud, the news release said. Ihlenfeld said in the news release he plans to return to the private sector. An acting U.S. Attorney will be announced at a later date.
