West Virginia’s state treasurer said this week he plans to propose a constitutional amendment that would put term limits on some elected statewide offices. Treasurer Larry Pack said in a news release that his planned proposal to the state legislature would cap those serving in the office of secretary of state, auditor, state treasurer, commissioner of agriculture or attorney general at three consecutive terms or 12 years total in a particular office. The resolution does not prevent an individual from seeking a different constitutional office following their service of three consecutive terms in one office, according to the news release. If adopted by the legislature, the proposed amendment would need to be approved by the voters during the 2026 General Election. If approved by voters, the measure would apply to those elected to those beginning in 2029 or any year after that.
