Lawmakers to consider options for PEIA

A bill has been introduced in the West Virginia House of Delegates that would abolish the Public Employees Insurance Agency, an agency that provides health insurance for state employees. The insurance has been criticized for years, even resulting in a teacher’s strike in 2018. The bill is sponsored by Republican Del. Charles Sheedy. Eyewitness News reported Democratic Del. Mike Pushkin fears that the bill would result in pay cuts for state employees. Some lawmakers believe the state should increase funding for PEIA.
