A coal miner, 55-year old Steven Fields, died in Boone County after the mine surface collapsed. The mine fell at the Twilight MTR Surface Mine in Boone at 7:30 a.m. last Wednesday, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration. Field’s death marks the first miner to die in 2025. MSHA reported five deaths in 2024.
